Basic Training in Landscape Maintenance and Installation

Leeward Community College - OCEWD now offers a basic landscape training program designed to serve as a fundamental training program for entry-level landscapers. The program is also intended to prepare experienced landscapers to take the Landscape Industry Certification - Exterior Test (LICT). This training series blends classroom learning with hands-on experience and is based on the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) training manual.

Tools and equipment will be operated during some of the classes. Students should come prepared to take notes and do problem solving and participate in hands-on demonstrations.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Professional Development from OCEWD. Participants who currently are LICT certified will receive up to 48 CEUs offered through the Landscape Industry Council of Hawaii (LICH).
Anyone considering participation in this course must take a math and reading assessment to determine eligibility. Remedial classes will be offered free of charge for those needing it. For more information call OCEWD at 455-0477.

The Landscape Industry Certified Technician: Exterior is a national testing and certification program administered by the Landscape
Industry Council of Hawaii Foundation (LICHF) under a licensing agreement with the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET). The LICT program seeks to raise the standards of the landscape profession, recognize proficiency in the landscape workforce, upgrade the status of individual landscape professionals and provide employers and the public with a means of identifying qualified landscape professionals.

The Hawaii program offers certification in four areas: TURF MAINTENANCE, ORNAMENTAL MAINTENANCE, SOFTSCAPE INSTALLATION, and IRRIGATION. For information on LICT test registration visit
