Motorcycle Safety

MSF Basic RiderCourse2 - Skills Practice - MS3000

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic RiderCourse2-Skills Practice, formerly known as the Experienced RiderCourse (ERC), is designed to provide current motorcyclists lifelong opportunities for rider education and training.  Participants must be licensed riders who have successfully completed the BRC or who possess basic riding skills. The course consists of both classroom instruction and riding exercises in a controlled environment. The riding exercises emphasize safety, skill development and build upon the basic riding skills introduced in the BRC.  This course provides participants an opportunity to use their own motorcycle.  Tuition: $50

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  1. Blend various techniques for seeing and being seen in the traffic mix.
  2. Judge proper lane positioning for space cushioning, lane protection, and following distance.
  3. Select an appropriate space cushion to other vehicles in a moving traffic environment to maintain proper motorcycle control and avert collisions.
  4. Develop advanced turning and braking techniques including maximum braking, and controlling skids.
  5. Demonstrate techniques and procedures for carrying passengers and loads, and handling a motorcycle under adverse weather conditions and motorcycle malfunctions.

Attendance Policy

Participants are expected to attend all class sessions. Sign-in sheets are completed at every class session. Participants must attend all classes in order to satisfactorily complete the course. Arriving more than five minutes late at the start of a class will beconsidered an unexcused absence and may result in the participant being dropped from the class.

Standards of Progress
Attendance, completion of assignments, quiz/exam scores, and satisfactory performance of all skills/tasks contribute to the overall grade. Possible grades include:

(CR) is used to indicate passing with a knowledge test of 80% or higher and skills test less than 21 points off.

(NC) is used to indicate not passing grade of “NC” may repeat a course once. Additional repeats may be allowed after discussion with a Program Coordinator, and participants may be required to repeat the entire course at an additional expense.
